Over the Thanksgiving weekend, a number of LTI team members took part in NASA’s Space Apps 2023 hackathon.
Among the many challenges on offer, LTI’s chosen objective was to determine a way of using data from the DISCOVR satellite, including its anomalies and failures, to predict the occurrence of solar storms. And all in less than 39 hours, top time. Our solution? A satellite data anomaly detector combined with a feed-forward LSTM neural network.
After submission of the project and primary evaluation, LTI received an overall nomination for its work, ranking among the top 3 of the 243 teams participating in the competition! Over the next month, NASA subject matter experts will evaluate our work and determine the winners.
